The historic county town of Northampton sits close to the heart of England and offers a wealth of sightseeing opportunities. Hotels in Northampton are also a great base for seeing more of the wider area.

TravelSupermarket compares prices on the best Northampton hotels - all you have to do is pick your ideal place to stay...

With swathes of gorgeous English countryside, roaring races at Silverstone and a scattering of ancient castles and beauty spots, the county of Northamptonshire attracts tourists looking for a diverse and enchanting break in the UK. Northampton, the county town, sits at the centre of it all and offers a good base for every kind of visitor.

Sports fans in particular are in for a real treat in Northampton. Sixfields Stadium is home to Northampton Town FC, while the Saints rugby team bring fans to fever pitch at Franklin's Gardens. County cricket is also popular here and, for those who like a gentler game, golf courses are in abundance around the town.

To really get the engines revving however, you'll want to make a beeline for Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix. Fans of Formula 1 can reach the circuit in around 25 minutes from their Northampton accommodation. Book early if you plan to see this beloved annual competition.

The town itself is dotted with the remains of history, with evidence of settlements here going back as far as the Bronze Age. An eclectic mix of architecture surrounds shops, markets and leisure centres, museums and other cultural highlights. Northampton also puts on a fantastic calendar of annual events (more on that below in our 'what's on' section).

Cheap hotels in Northampton are easy to come by, especially if you book in advance. Use the TravelSupermarket search tool to compare prices on the town's hotels.
