In the 19th century, this patch of England’s northwest coast was the world’s busiest and richest port. Forty percent of the world’s trade passed through, and more than 9 million people followed the trade route and emigrated to North America from Liverpool. You can still follow in the wake of those intrepid emigres on cruises to Canada. Cruises to Northern Europe, the Norwegian fjords, Ireland, Spain, France, Portugal, Madeira, the Canary Islands, the Azores, Greenland and Iceland, as well as voyages around the British Isles and across the world to the Indian Ocean, also sail from Liverpool.
Wherever you want to go, get your game face on and compare the cruise lines listed on TravelSupermarket for a good chance of finding the cheapest cruise deal from Liverpool.
It’s hard to picture a more appropriate start to your cruise. Liverpool is steeped in maritime history, so much so that it’s been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status as the Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City.
Liverpool Cruise Terminal is next to the iconic Royal Liver Building on Pier Head, part of one of the world’s most recognisable waterfronts. No matter where you’re off to, you won’t be able to resist looking back at that remarkable cityscape. The Three Graces buildings will wave you off as you sail away, as they have done for over a century. Bonus fact for you: the Cunard Building (the middle Grace) was built in 1914 by the Cunard Steamship Company, and it remains the spiritual home of the cruise line; in 2015, the three Cunard Queen ships saluted the building in celebration of the company’s 175th anniversary.
Liverpool Cruise Terminal is just 500 metres from the city centre – a wonderful rarity in the cruise world – making it easy to get to. Long and short term parking is available and best organised through your cruise line. Drop-off is in front of Baggage Reclaim. The best place to park for pick-ups is in the pay and display car park located next to the Liver Building on St Nicholas Place.
The nearest mainline station is Liverpool Lime Street, a 20-minute walk or a five-minute taxi ride from the terminal. The cruise terminal is also served by two city centre bus and coach terminals: Liverpool ONE Paradise Street Bus Station is a 15-minute walk or five minutes by taxi; while Queen Square Bus Station is a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute drive. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is 14km (nine miles) from the terminal. Manchester International Airport is 64km (40 miles).
