You’ll find most car rental providers just outside the arrivals hall – simply follow the signs. Before setting off, remember to complete all your usual checks. Motorists in Albania drive on the right-hand side of the road, meaning you’ll overtake or be overtaken on the left.

It can take around 30-45 minutes to get from Tirana International Airport in your hire car to the city centre. The traffic here can move quite slowly, so it’s worth planning in extra time.

As with most city centres, you’re better off exploring Tirana on foot and using public transport to get around. However, if you’re keen on driving, you’ll find parking options throughout, from paid on-street bays (typically marked with blue lines) to paid car parks (there’s one under Skanderbeg Square).

In Albania, speed limits are usually displayed on signs in km/h. These limits are typically 40km/h (25 mph) in urban areas and 110km/h (68 mph) on motorways.
