Idyllic beaches
For a last-minute beach fix, Lanzarote’s diverse shores are the answer. Playa Blanca is a perfect family escape, with golden sands and calm waters, while the Atlantic swells that crash into Famara make it popular among surfers. Playas de Papagayo’s coves are pure, untouched beauty and are also a must-visit. Bring your camera.
Volcanic wonders
Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes are nothing short of extraordinary. Timanfaya National Park’s Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) look like they belong on another planet and El Golfo’s green Charco Verde lagoon, located behind a black-sand beach, adds a splash of vibrant colour to the rugged scenery. Plan a longer stop in El Golfo for a seafood lunch with stunning lagoon views.
Cultural treasures
Local boy César Manrique has left his artistic mark on many of the Canaries, but none more so than Lanzarote. The Jameos del Agua culture hub and the Mirador del Río viewpoint are two of his most famous legacies, and both are worth a visit. Wandering Teguise’s cobbled streets, exploring the MIAC art museum at San José Castle and browsing local craft markets will round out your cultural tour of the island.
Wet and wild
With volcanic trails with sweeping sea views, challenging waves perfect for kitesurfing and hidden underwater coves that are a snorkeller’s dream, Lanzarote is a thrill-seekers playground. Cycling through La Geria’s striking vineyards and exploring ancient lava caves add even more excitement to a last-minute holiday here.
Lanzarote’s year-round sunshine and warm winters (highs hover above 18C) make it a superb choice for affordable last-minute trips. For the best last-minute deals, visit in spring or autumn, when you’ll find fewer crowds and lower prices. Midweek departures are your friend for snagging the best bargains.
