Whether you’re after a classic beach break, a healthy dose of culture or looking to party, Croatia won’t disappoint. Its pebbled beaches are world-class, its calendar of festivals is unmatched and its social scene can be as wild (or chilled) as you want it to be. Extremely easy to get to and surprisingly cheap, Croatia is perfect for a villa holiday in 2023.

Adriatic coast
Almost unreal in its beauty, Croatia’s Adriatic coastline stretches out for over a thousand miles (including its many islands), weaving tiny pebble beaches, fragrant pine forests and sapphire-tinted waters together into its wonderful patchwork seascape.
Unsurprisingly, the seaside one of the biggest draws for holidaymakers.
In the south you’ll find the Dalmatian Coast. It’s perfect for sun-seekers happy to spend the day lounging on a beach and the evening exploring the traditional little bars that make up Croatia’s nightlife scene.
Rent a villa in the ancient walled city of Dubrovnik and delve into its past in the fascinating Old Town. Keen to be even more active? Head to Makarska. It’s a lovely spot for swimming and windsurfing, as well as hiking and mountain biking. If you want to splash the cash, the exclusive island of Hvar is nearby.
Split has lovely beaches, such as Bačvice, and a charming, palm-tree lined esplanade. Beyond the Dalmatian Coast, look for cheap or luxury villas in trendy Zadar, serene Pula or understated Šibenik – the latter is ideal if you want to explore the Kornati Islands.
If your heart is set on exploring Croatia’s rich history and wonderful culture, you won’t have to look too hard – The Greeks, Romans and Venetians have all played their part in shaping Croatia.
Croatia’s dynamic capital Zagreb is always a winner. Surprisingly compact, its pretty streets are easily explored by foot, and its coffee shops, restaurants and bars, along with its museums and galleries, are some of the best in the country.
To the west of Split you’ll come across Trogir. Rent a villa close to this old Venetian town and, thanks to its well-preserved baroque and renaissance buildings, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
Elsewhere Poreč might seem like a surprising choice – given it’s better known as a tourist hotspot – but look beyond its coastal charms and you’ll discover why it was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Love a spot of fishing? A passionate hiker? Into rock climbing? Whatever your passion, Croatia’s great outdoors have something for everyone.
For river fishing, book a villa near the Mreznica and Zvecaj rivers. Alternatively, if you prefer fishing in the sea, make a beeline for islands like Sipan and Kolocep.
For hiking, you’re spoilt for choice. A villa close to Biokovo Mountain, Risnjak National Park and Učka Mountain will put you right in the heart of some of Croatia’s best walking terrain.
For rock climbing, rent a villa with a pool near to Paklenica National Park, which has enough range to keep everyone from novice climbers and more seasoned pros busy.
