North

Sardinia’s crown jewel, so to speak, is the Costa Smeralda, otherwise known as the ‘Emerald Coast’.

Located in the north east of the island, this glamorous area is the playground of the rich and the famous. Accordingly, villas are more luxurious and, in turn, expensive.

If that’s a little too pricey, look instead towards the historic and family-friendly Alghero on the north west. Villas are much, much cheaper here.

East

Meanwhile, on the east coast of the island, beyond Olbia, you’ll find lovely little towns aplenty, such as Budoni, La Caletta and Orosei.

Alternatively, rent a villa in Cala Gonone and hop on a boat to Cala Goloritzé, one of Europe’s most beautiful of beaches.

South

In the south you’ll find Sardinia’s capital Cagliari. This magnetic city will appeal to those of you after an experience that’s evocative of the Italian mainland. Costa Rei, meanwhile, has shades of the Caribbean in its white sand and sapphire seas.

Further south, Chia’s beauty is matched by its tranquil ambiance, while Calasetta, on the northern tip of Sant'Antioco, is a lovely hideaway to get lost in.

West

On Sardinia’s west coast, Oristano is perfect if you want to do very little other than relax by your villa’s private pool, stroll around piazzas and enjoy long lunches.

Alternatively, further north, picture perfect Bosa – literally one of the most colourful towns in Sardinia – is one for those who love to wander aimlessly. Its Sa Costa district is a particular highlight.
