Holiday villas in Menorca

If you’re in the mood for turquoise waters, soft powdery white sand and near endless supply of sunshine, you won’t have to travel far – a villa holiday in Menorca offers you all of the above and more. Expect a mellow atmosphere, fascinating historic monuments and, along with great seafood, some of the best mayonnaise in the world (the condiment was supposedly invented on the island).

Spacious, secluded, homier than a hotel and good value for money – and often with perks like a private pool – renting a villa in Menorca is always a good choice. Whether you’re looking to go on a family holiday, book a romantic break or spend some quality time with friends in sunnier climes, here are a few recommendations on where to stay.

Most people head to Menorca with one thing in mind: the beach. The island has so many, all firmly in the “idyllic” category, that it’s hard to argue otherwise – think lazy afternoons on a sun lounger or splashing about in the sea. If that sounds like bliss to you, head anywhere south where there are plenty of cheap holiday villas to choose from.

Your options along the entire southern coastline include the family-friendly Punta Prima, the understated Cala en Porter and the pretty Son Bou, as well as the relaxing Sant Tomàs, the bubbly Cala Galdana and the easy-going Cala en Bosch.

If you’re keen on seeing and doing a little more during your break, rent a villa close to the capital Mahón in the east or Ciutadella de Menorca in the west. In Mahón – often referred to as Maó – check out the Museum of Menorca and catch a performance at the Teatro Principal de Mahón. Meanwhile, in Ciutadella, highlights include its Old Town and the fascinating Naveta d'Es Tudons, a megalithic chamber tomb.

For an alternative experience, head further inland into rural Menorca. Just as laidback in character as the rest of the island, the countryside delivers quaint villages, dry stone walls and bags of history – the island is home to a large number of megalithic monuments. If that sounds right up your street, have a look for a lovely countryside villa near to towns like Ferreries, Es Mercadal, Es Migjorn Gran and Alaior.
