Algarve
For family holidays that are all about sun, sea and sand, head to the Algarve on Portugal’s southern coast. On beaches like Praia da Rocha and Praia da Marinha, you and your kids can sunbathe, swim and explore at your leisure. Mix it up with days out to the Zoomarine Algarve theme park and Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Lisbon
There are plenty of fun activities for kids in Portugal’s vibrant capital city, known for its architecture, history and food. Meet sea creatures at Oceanário de Lisboa aquarium, hop on tram No. 28 for a fun, scenic tour of the city and sample Portugal’s famous custard tarts. There are a number of great day trips from Lisbon too, including beach-lined Cascais and the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park with its colourful Pena Palace.
Madeira
Easily one of Portugal’s best family-friendly destinations, the island of Madeira serves up sizzling weather thanks to its location off the coast of Africa. Don't miss the Monte Sledge ride — a 2km (1.2 miles) hair-raising toboggan ride through the streets — and the otherworldly São Vicente Caves. For more fun, throw in a dolphin-watching boat trip and a cable car ride from Funchal to Monte.
