Holiday villas in Albufeira

Located bang in the middle of the Algarve’s southern coastline, Albufeira delivers big on golden beaches, lively nightlife and, courtesy of its fishing village heritage, some of the best seafood in Portugal. It’s also easy to get to and cheap – perfect for a sun-soaked and fun-filled villa holiday in 2021.

If you’re after more of a lively atmosphere, with easy access to numerous restaurants, bars and clubs, look to rent a villa close to a bustling area known as ‘The Strip’. It’s mainly aimed at younger crowd looking to socialise during the day – think alfresco wining and dining – and party hard in the evening.

In contrast, Albufeira’s Old Town is a lot calmer, more so if you rent a villa that’s a little out of the way. It’s especially suited to couples and families looking for more of a chilled-out experience. The main hub of activity centres around its historic square, where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch, pick up some cool souvenirs and explore its fascinating museum, the Museu Municipal de Arqueologia.

Alternatively, if you’re keen on being within easy walking distance of its spectacular coastline, look for a villa near to some of Albufeira’s best beaches. These include Blue Flag beauties such as Praia da Oura, Praia dos Aveiros, Praia dos Alemães and Praia do Inatel. Book in advance and you should have no trouble finding a cheap deal, even if you opt for a private pool.

In terms of when to go, if you want peak sunshine, then consider booking a villa holiday in July or August when temperatures can top 30C. Be warned – it’ll be exceptionally busy.

If you’re not necessarily looking for a summer break and much prefer a more intimate and authentic experience of Albufeira – in other words, less touristy – head out to between March and May or in November or December. A lot more tranquil, you’ll still get to enjoy plenty of beautiful weather – at the top end of the scale you’re looking at 17C even during the winter months – and far fewer crowds.
