Family-friendly Algarve

Holidaying with the family and after sun, sea and sand? The Algarve’s glorious coastline is where you’ll want to be. Look for a villa somewhere in and around Albufeira, which is pretty much smack bang in the middle of the coast.

One of the region’s most popular destinations, it’s home to amazing Blue Flag beaches such as Praia da Oura and Praia dos Aveiros.

Further west, Lagos is another good option for a family-friendly villa holiday. Beyond its lovely beaches, it’s got a fantastic zoo and a couple of cool museums too.

Traditional Algarve

If you’re keen to experience a less touristy side to the Algarve, there are plenty of traditional places to head to.

Take Sagres, a small village in the wilder, more rugged south west. Head here for a villa holiday if you’re after peace and quiet or watersports. It’s especially popular with surfers.

Beyond Albufeira to the east there’s Faro. With a lovely old town (cidade velha), medieval cobbled streets and a delightful marina, the Algarve’s capital is as authentically Portuguese as they come.

Further eastwards you’ve got Tavira where you’ll find pastel-coloured buildings and bags of old world charm. The historic town is perfect for couples searching for a romantic villa getaway.

Budget and luxury Algarve

It’s not just the Algarve’s endless sunshine and gorgeous beaches that make it such a popular holiday destination – it also offers excellent value for money.

So, if you’re after a cheap and cheerful villa, you’re in luck. Some of the best budget-friendly destinations include Lagos, the area around Praia dos Pescadores (Fisherman’s Beach) and around Albufeira (in particular, Oura).

If you’re looking to splurge a little on your villa holiday, consider accommodation in the more exclusive Vilamoura area. Expect golf courses, luxury shops, a sophisticated casino and a huge and stylish marina.
