The sizeable fishing port is a working town and the history of the industry can be traced in the Fishing Heritage Museum set in Alexandra Dock. The museum has exhibits showing the lives of fisherman and their families and explains the importance of both the town and the industry to the UK and local economy over the years.
The Grimsby Dock Tower is worth a visit and you can also walk around much of the docks and watch the large trawlers coming and going, unloading their catches and preparing for their next voyage.
The Time Trap Museum tells the history of Grimsby. It is found in the old prison cells deep in the town hall and is an entertaining romp through the story of the port.
Once you have explored the shopping centre and places to eat and drink in the town centre, you can get in your car and drive to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway situated just outside the town. This preserved stretch of railway line allows trips on steam trains along the coast and through beautiful countryside.

There is an extensive collection of old RAF bases in the area. Used in the Second World War as key airfields for the protection of Britain, many of these can still be visited. RAF Coningsby is home to the RAF Memorial Flight. This famous collection of aircraft includes the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane and is often used for major celebrations such as in flypasts to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Tattershall Castle is a 15th century castle belonging to the National Trust with fantastic stained glass and wonderful views from the rooftop across the Lincolnshire Wolds.
With several towns to choose from, you can visit a number of beach resorts for walks, a dip in the sea and traditional seaside entertainment. Cleethorpes, Skegness and Mablethorpe are all in easy reach of Grimsby and offer delightful drives along the A roads of the county.
The Lincolnshire Grazing Marshes are known for their farming and birdlife and today there is an ongoing project to regenerate much of the area and restore it to its former glory. However, there is much Roman and medieval history in the area too and the marshes were used historically for salt production. During the Second World War some of the largest army camps were located in the area and the coast is littered with sea defences and pill boxes built to help defend the country from any German invasion.
With Lincoln, Hull and even Boston within striking distance, there is plenty to choose from to make the most of your hire car.
