Very much a surfing town, central to Newquay are its beaches. With no less than four in the town - Lusty Glaze, Towan, Great Western and Tolcarne - it is also home to famous Fistral Beach which hosts the Boardmasters international surfing and music festival every year. If you fancy having a go, there are a number of surf schools as well as surf hire available. However, if you fancy trying your hand at a different sport, there is also kitesurfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, go-karting and Segway experiences on offer.
A great destination for families, there are a number of attractions in Newquay such as the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay Zoo, Dairyland Farm World and Crealy Great Adventure Park. Grown-ups have plenty to keep them busy too, with the Classic Air Force showcasing a variety of 1950s and 1960s vintage jets, while the Japanese Garden and Bonsai Nursery displays an exotic range of plants and waterfalls.

Just half an hour from Newquay is the seaside town of Padstow. This charming town will give you plenty of opportunity to walk around its quaint, winding streets and admire the boats in the pretty harbour. A great crazy golf course will keep all the family busy and gastronomical delights can be enjoyed at a number of eateries including celebrity chef Rick Stein's seafood restaurant.
Polzeath is around 45 minutes away from Newquay and has a very trendy vibe. With a choice of two beaches, the waves here are also popular for surfing and there is also a beautiful cliff-top walk with ideal spots for stopping off for a picnic.
Head to St Ives (around 50 minutes away) to visit the Tate Gallery or potter about the shops and take a trip to Looe (just under an hour away) to experience a traditional Cornish village with fantastic boat trips out around the coast.
Tintagel can be reached in around an hour, and legend has it that King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table lived here. The castle remains can be visited, as can Merlin's Cave and a number of attractions related to the legend. Nearby Bossiney Cove is a beautiful beach that can be reached by descending a large number of steps, and fantastic walks can be taken around the coastal paths which will afford you great views.
