There are plenty of reasons to say “Bonjour!” to beautiful Toulouse on your next city break…
The city of Toulouse is at the heart of the Midi-Pyrenees region in southwest France. La Ville Rose, or the Pink City – so called for the coloured bricks used to build much of the urban landscape – sprawls alongside the banks of the mighty Garonne and the Canal du Midi. It makes for an attractive destination, with, at its centre, the neoclassical Capitole de Toulouse. Get there after sundown when lightbulbs pick out the highlights of the glorious façade.
You’ve got all the tastiest bits of the French menu here: a generous helping of culture, amazing restaurants, a liberal sprinkling of wine bars, museums, markets, and a delicate background flavour of “joie de vivre” – an enjoyment of life that perfectly captures the essence of France. Toulouse will also surprise with its long connection to the European aerospace industry. The brilliant Cite de l’espace, a space theme park on the edge of Toulouse, appeals to all ages.
While not as exhilarating as space travel, flights to Toulouse from the UK are cheap, frequent and fast, taking less than two hours from take-off to touch down at Toulouse Blagnac Airport (TLS).
Passengers on city breaks arrive throughout the year, with skiers also booking Toulouse flights during the winter months to access the ski resorts of southwest France, Andorra and Spain.
Just remember to book well in advance of travel to snap up the cheapest fares on popular routes, such as flights to Toulouse from London and Bristol.
