Situated in the centre of Germany, Frankfurt is many things at once: financial centre, historical site and skyscraper hub. The city is famous for its dominating skyline, but visitors find that beyond the architecture are an array of intriguing attractions and cultural delights.
With cultural attractions, an array of restaurants and pubs, and plenty of opportunity for excursions outside the city, Frankfurt has lots on offer to tempt visitors...
Many tourists come to the city between April and September. This period is a big draw thanks to the summery weather that's usually on offer. If you want to avoid the crowds though, you might consider heading there at a different time of year, taking advantage of cheap flights to Frankfurt in the process.
For instance, March may appeal thanks to the famous jazz festival, or in autumn, Oktoberfest spills into the city and visitors and locals alike get involved in eating, dancing and drinking beer. Festive events are held in various locations over the city.
In terms of tourist attractions, many visitors come to see the Frankfurt Cathedral or, for a glimpse into the city's industrious past and present, the Höchst Porcelain Manufactory, where tourists can learn about the art of making porcelain. Getting away from the busy streets is relatively easy in Frankfurt and attractive options for travellers seeking a quiet time include the Mediterranean-themed Gardens of Nice and the botanical exhibits at the Palmengarten.
If you decide to head out of the city, you've got plenty of options for suitable and attractive destinations. If you're in the mood for relaxing with a pint in hand, Mainz is the place to go. This city is around 25 miles from Frankfurt and its broad range of taverns and restaurants means you're never far from a good meal or drink.
Meanwhile, Hanau, to Frankfurt's east, is one for lovers of history and architecture. Highlights here include the House of Goldsmiths and the appealing St. Mary's Church building.
