Kenya is a country in the East of Africa offering a wide range of attractions for tourists. It has a rich history and is very accommodating to visitors. It has beautiful beach resorts on the Indian Ocean, mainly around the city of Mombasa.
Whether you fancy heading out on safari, exploring bustling cities, visiting coffee plantations or flopping on the beach, Kenya is a fantastic holiday option...
Resorts are to the north and south of the city. All-inclusive resorts and hotels can be found in Malindi, Diani, Watamu and Lamu. Kenya is also famous for its safaris and game parks such as Tsavo East and Tsavo West, which offer visitors the chance to see the 'big five game': lions, African elephants, Cape buffalos, leopards and rhinoceros.
Trips can also be taken to the neighbouring countries of Tanzania and Zanzibar. The capital of Kenya, Nairobi, is a bustling city and a fascinating mix of modern architecture and shanty towns. Many colonial buildings still remain amid the skyscrapers of the city. A particularly popular attraction is Karen Blixen's house in the suburbs of Nairobi. The author of the famous book Out of Africa established a coffee plantation here in 1914.
Taxis will also take you from Mombasa airport to the beaches for a reasonable fee. To get around Kenya, a train service runs from Nairobi to Mombasa, offering the chance to see the wildlife up close. The journey takes 13 hours and offers meals and first and second class seats. Buses, or matatu, can be used for travel around the country.
