Find out how to reach East Midlands Airport by road and rail...
Located within Leicestershire, and close to the borders of the English counties of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, East Midlands Airport (EMA) has had something of an identity crisis over the years (it was renamed Nottingham East Midlands Airport in 2003 in a move so unpopular that in 2006 it reverted back to East Midlands Airport). Also known as Castle Donington Airport, the airport now carries the strapline - Nottingham, Leicester, Derby - to help overseas passengers understand where they are landing.
If you're travelling to the airport, you shouldn't have any problems finding it on the map. The airport is well served by the motorway network of the Midlands and well sign-posted from all surrounding areas. It's located just off the busy M1, with excellent public transportation links for those not driving to catch East Midlands Airport flights.
Local bus services run frequently between the airport and nearby cities and towns, while National Express operates coach services that connect East Midlands Airport to a host of major cities and towns.
There isn't a railway station at East Midlands Airport, so if you plan to travel by train you should arrive at Derby, Nottingham, or Long Eaton stations and travel onward to the airport via the dedicated bus services.
Taxis are in good supply outside arrivals for incoming passengers, and you can be dropped off by any taxi operator for your departure.
The airport, which looks for ways to boost its green credentials, operates a car-share scheme to reach the site.
Drivers should use the postcode DE74 2SA when relying on a satellite navigation system. If you plan to park at the airport, be sure to book in advance to save money. TravelSupermarket can find excellent deals for you on airport parking.
The nearest major airport to East Midlands is Birmingham Airport, which serves a great range of destinations around the world. It is 40 miles away, with a journey time of 45 minutes.
