Compare December holidays

Travelling before Christmas is often cheaper than travelling during the Christmas and New Year peak, although prices depend on your destination and dates. Early December can be particularly good value for a winter-sun holiday. After New Year, prices can also fall as demand drops, making January a good option for a cheaper getaway.

Yes, you can still find last-minute Christmas holiday deals, but availability may be limited and prices aren’t guaranteed to be lower. Popular destinations and family-friendly resorts can sell out quickly, so being flexible about where you go, your departure airport and travel dates can give you more options when searching for a last-minute escape.

Boxing Day holiday sales typically start around 26 December, although some travel companies may launch offers before or after this date. Boxing Day and the days around it can be a good time to compare holiday prices, particularly if you're looking ahead to travel in the following year. Always compare the total holiday cost, factoring in things such as luggage and transfers.

Yes, December can be a good time to book a summer holiday, particularly if you already know when you want to travel. Booking earlier can give you more choice of destinations, hotels and flight times. However, prices can change throughout the year, so it’s worth comparing deals and checking whether flexible dates could save you money.

The best-value December holiday destinations depend on your dates and the type of holiday you want. The Canary Islands, Egypt and Turkey can offer relatively affordable winter sunshine, while long-haul destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean are popular for warmer weather. Travelling outside the Christmas and New Year peak can also help you find better prices.

All-inclusive holidays can be good value over Christmas, particularly for families and travellers who want to know the majority of their costs upfront. Meals, drinks and selected activities are usually included, which can make budgeting easier during a busy period. Compare the full package price with other board options to see which offers the best value for your trip.

Holiday prices can drop after Christmas, particularly once the peak festive travel period has ended. Demand often falls in January, which can create opportunities for cheaper breaks. However, prices vary by destination, departure date and availability, so there’s no guarantee that waiting will result in a lower price. Comparing different dates can help you find a better deal.

It can be worth checking Boxing Day travel sales, but there’s no guarantee you’ll get a better deal by waiting. Prices and availability can change at any time, and popular holidays may sell out before the sales begin. If you find a holiday that suits your budget and dates, compare the price and booking terms before deciding whether to wait.
