Protaras is easy to reach, with regular flights arriving at nearby Larnaca. The area was transformed from a quiet rural town into a thriving and modern tourist resort in the 1980s. The resort has managed to retain much of its original charm and boasts some beautiful fig-tree beaches and quiet seaside coves.

The resort is family-friendly, with a wide choice of restaurants and night-time entertainment to suit most tastes. Ayios Elias Church

A beautiful church standing on a hill overlooking Protaras. It offers terrific views of the area.

Fig Tree Bay

This is a delightful and picturesque bay with a golden beach and shallow waters. It can get a little crowded in July and August, so try and visit during the quieter months to fully appreciate its splendour.

Konnos Beach Road

About a mile and a half from the main resort you’ll find the delightful – and often quiet – Konnos Beach. However, the views from the road leading to it often steal the show.

Cape Grecko

This is an ideal spot for walkers. Untouched, the scenery here remains as it has been for centuries. You’ll find Cape Grecko between Paralimni and Ayia Napa.

Aquarium

One of the hidden gems of Protaras is the Ocean Aquarium Park, which can be found towards Paralimni. It is a large and well-kept aquarium with superb displays of Mediterranean species. You’ll also find penguin and alligator displays.

Children’s Festival; June: The area devotes a whole weekend each year to children. Fairground rides, games and entertainment can be found around the municipality, with the major events centred around the main square in Ayia Napa.

Cultural Festival; July: Head for nearby Paralimni where you’ll discover a traditional folk festival with dancing, concerts and feasting into the early hours.

International Festival; September: The Aiya Napa International Festival, staged every year, gathers together the very best performers from across Cyprus to stage a series of concerts and events. The main events take place in Seferis Square.
