There’s also Bognor Regis and the quieter beach in neighbouring Littlehampton. Alternatively, the A23 will lead you down to Brighton’s independent shops, pubs and the famous pier.

Surrounding these coastal areas is the South Downs National Park, a stunning part of England with many walk and bike trails. With a hire car you can easily explore the downs from Horsham, stopping in several areas over a few days.

Again, the proximity to London affects how busy the traffic and parking gets, especially on hot summer days when city dwellers head to the coast to escape the city’s heat.
