First point of call should be Brighton Pier. Dating back to 1823, it was then used as a landing stage for passenger boats; today it has fairground attractions, restaurants, and an arcade.
Voted one of the top 10 city beach break destinations in the world, head to Brighton's Blue Flag pebble beach and enjoy a spot of sunbathing or a walking along the shore. Try your hand at the watersports on offer and then tuck into the classic seaside meal of fish and chips.
On Brighton Marina, there is a cinema, bowling alley, casino, gym and plenty of shops to keep you entertained. A view over Brighton can be seen from the Brighton Wheel which holds six people per pod.
The city is divided into city villages and has a lot to offer visitors: Hove has acres of Regency townhouses and terracotta mansions to visit; The Lanes has alleyways with unique shops and bars to entertain you; North Laine and the Cultural Quarter has a new city square with a fabulous library; and Churchill Square has a modern indoor shopping centre.
It's well worth considering car rental; Brighton is in close proximity to London, Portsmouth and Bournemouth, so why not get out and explore?
Jump in your hire car and experience the Sussex countryside. Stroll or cycle through the South Downs National Park and finish up in a country pub in one of the quaint villages in the area.
London is a 90-minute drive from Brighton and is perfect for visiting for the day or longer if you prefer. Explore sights such as Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London, or admire the view from the London Eye.
The island city of Portsmouth is just over an hour's drive from Brighton. With a wealth of history and attractions, from museums and galleries to exhibitions of the city's naval and maritime heritage, Portsmouth is a great day out. Alternatively, head to Bournemouth where you can make the most of the beaches and beautiful gardens, as well as explore the nearby Jurassic Coast.
