Search for the best car hire deals in Surrey

Surrey is one of the wealthiest counties in England with commuter towns such as Guildford, Woking, Weybridge and Camberley dotted among picturesque villages like Tilford and Shere. As the English wine industry thrives, vineyards are putting Surrey firmly on the gastronomic map. Hire a car and explore the wine estates for a very rewarding experience.

Car hire options

Car hire companies are present in major towns across Surrey, particularly in towns close to the M25 motorway such as Chertsey, Guilford, Leatherhead and Reigate. In these towns, at least a dozen international and local car hire brands are present and vying for your business. Keen competition has kept prices cheap, making car hire a highly affordable transport option for visitors to Surrey.

Heathrow Airport, which is just 34km (21 miles) from Guildford, is one of the busiest airports in the world. Gatwick Airport, another major sub, is 53km (33 miles) south of Guildford. Schedule an airport pickup for your car hire before flying into Heathrow or Gatwick.

Sightseeing in Surrey

Once you’ve picked up your cheap rental car, you can take to the road and explore some of the major attractions of Surrey. If you are interested in English wine, head to Denbies Wine Estate, England’s largest single estate vineyard situated on the outskirts of Dorking. Here you can see how the wine is made and even sample a glass or two. If the wine is too good to stop drinking, park your rental car and stay overnight in their four-star farmhouse accommodation.

If historic houses are your thing, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Guildford with its atmospheric medieval castle and the Elizabethan Loseley Hall which has stunning ancient parkland with views over the North Downs.

Explore Surrey’s villages

Surrey’s villages are some of the most quintessentially English villages in the country and you can get to them easily with a rental car. Think groomed greens with games of cricket, whitewashed pubs with wooden beams and cosy nooks and independent shops selling local produce.

England’s oldest recorded village, Abinger Common, is in Surrey and has dwellings dating back more than 7,000 years. Surrey also has England's largest village, Cranleigh with its own department store called Manns. There is also a characterful cafe called Cromwell Coffee House, which is in a historic, beamed building dating from the 1560s.

Annual events in Surrey

The Surrey County Show in May is the largest one-day agricultural show in the country. The event takes place in Stoke Park Guildford and features hundreds of animals, competitions and rural crafts. In June you’ve got the Investec Derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse, one of Surrey’s most notable race meetings.

On the last bank holiday in August, it is the Wings and Wheels event at the Dunsfold Aerodrome - a five-hour air show and two-hour motor show that attracts more than 40,000 spectators. In September, the Game and Country Fair takes place at Loseley Park, just outside Guildford, where you can take part in clay shooting, watch gun dogs, falconry, terrier racing and sheep dog trials.
