Why go to Niagara Falls

Hear the roar of the water and see the thundering power at one of the world's biggest and fastest waterfalls during holidays in Niagara Falls, in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Niagara Falls holidays guarantee one thing – an experience of a lifetime to tick off your bucket list...

Located in the east of Canada, just hours from bustling Toronto, the city of Niagara Falls straddles the border between Canada and the state of New York, in the USA.

The magnificent falls drain Lake Erie into Lake Ontario in impressive style and Niagara Falls holidays draw millions of visitors every year. Stay in the Canadian city for the best views of the natural wonder and take advantage of a host of attractions, a variety of hotels and heaps of family fun.

The falls themselves are made up of Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and the smaller Bridal Veil Falls. Attractions around the spectacular sight include the Maid of the Mist, the popular boats that allow tourists to feel the roar up close – while getting a thorough drenching: ponchos are optional! The Journey Behind the Falls takes visitors behind the curtain of water of the Horseshoe Falls.

What to do in Niagara Falls

If you’re looking at package holidays to Niagara Falls the likelihood is there’ll be something going on to make it even more special...

Canada Day; July 1: Enjoy all things Canadian when the locals celebrate Canada Day on July 1. Watch the parade and enjoy other daytime fun before a display of fireworks lights up the night sky.

Santa Claus Parade; November: Be in Niagara Falls pre-Christmas to welcome Santa to the streets of the city.

Winter Festival of Lights; November/December/January: Winter is a magical time to be in Niagara Falls as Christmas excitement grips the city. This festival sees more than 100 animated illuminations, which are free to view.

Once you’ve had your fill looking at one of the world’s most fabulous natural wonders, you’ll find there is plenty to do for everyone...

Romance: Skylon Tower is the dominant shape on the Niagara Falls skyline and home to dining, shopping and accommodation. Book your table at the tower's revolving restaurant for a bird's eye view of the falls. Dine just as the sun is setting to see the falls in their daytime splendour before watching as darkness descends on the area, which lights up in spectacular style in the evening. Even the waterfalls are illuminated.

Nightlife: For a natural spectacle, the area around the falls is surprisingly commercial, with casinos, bars, restaurants, amusement arcades and theme park rides dominating the area, particularly in Clifton Hill. Lundy's Lane and Fallsview Boulevard offer further shopping and dining opportunities. You'll never be short of places to splash the cash at Niagara Falls.

Babies and toddlers: Marineland, the Butterfly Conservatory and Fallsview Waterpark will also amuse the kids, while adults might want to enjoy time on the golf course or in a spa.

Active types: If you want to avoid the full-on trappings of the tourist area, you could consider a stay in Niagara-on-the-Lake, some 30 minutes north of the falls, or go for a wilderness escape and choose accommodation in one of Ontario's more remote destinations.
