Why go to Turgutreis

Holidays in Turgutreis are your passport to fun in the sun and, at the end of the day, one of the most glorious sunsets in all of Turkey. Located on the Bodurm peninsula, Turgutreis is a pleasant resort that suits all kinds of travellers.

Famed for its fantastic market, cheap Turgutreis holidays are snapped up by savvy sun-seekers looking for a getaway that has it all...

The picturesque town of Turgutreis is cuddled by tree-clad mountains on one side and kissed by glorious aquamarine seas on the other. This much-loved summer-sun destination has attracted a loyal legion of fans that can't get enough of the long sandy beaches, the bustling weekly market and the pleasant bars and restaurants that line the seafront and the marina.

Formerly known as Karatoprak and renamed to honour locally-born pirate and Ottoman admiral Turgut Reis, this beachside beauty is perfect for family holidays as the gently-sloping beach leads into warm, shallow waters. Couples and older family groups also love the laidback vibe here in Turgutreis. It does have a few lively bars and a couple of nightclubs, but night owls prefer to flap their wings in nearby Bodrum.

It's easy to spend days in Turgutreis simply lapping up the rays of the sun by the side of your hotel pool or at the water's edge on the sands, but there's plenty to see and do within the resort and elsewhere around this part of south-west Turkey. You shouldn't miss the weekly market, held every Saturday in Turgutreis. Browse the stalls that sell a wonderful array of colourful items, taking a break every now and then to try delicious local produce. Then, when you've explored the nooks and crannies of this town, discovering art galleries and cafés, arrange a day trip to one of the nearby attractions. You could visit Kadikalesi, take a boat trip to the island of Kos, have your aches soothed away at a traditional Turkish bath house, see Bodrum and its castle, or journey underneath the waves on a scuba-diving adventure.

It's a breeze to find cheap holidays to Turgutreis when the sun shines between spring and autumn...

Air conditioning in your Turgutreis hotel will be very welcome at the height of this annual heat fest.

What to do in Turgutreis

Though not as lively as nearby Bodrum, there's always something happening in Turgutreis...

Classic Music Festival; July: The sunsets here are legendary but book a ticket to one of the evening concerts at the marina to see the sun disappear, accompanied by simply beautiful harmonies released into the warm evening air by talented musicians. It's a magical experience.

Bodrum Festival; July-August: If that whets your appetite for classical music, or you missed the concerts in Turgutreis, head to Bodrum (it's a 25-minute journey by road) to catch the evening performances by the stunning castle.

Aegean Festival; August: Bodrum marina is the setting for this feast of traditional music, dance and song, where hungry bellies are satisfied by platters of tasty Turkish fare.

Holidays to Turgutreis can be as slow or as action-packed as you choose. There's much to see and do, if you can muster the energy...

Babies and toddlers: Beaches sprawl away from Turgutreis in both directions but the main town beach is perfect for youngsters thanks to safe, shallow waters and a plethora of useful amenities close at hand.

Kids and teens: The treasures of the Aegean Sea are within easy grasp of Turgutreis, so book a boat trip for your family and enjoy a day on the waves. Young pirates at play will be particularly taken with ancient Turkish tales of life at sea.

Romance: Nothing screams romance quite like a mesmerising sunset and Turgutreis is home to some of the best. With a cool drink in one hand and your partner's hand in the other, there's no finer way to begin your chilled-out evening.

Relaxing: Start your holiday in Turgutreis with a trip to a local Turkish bath, or hammam. Have your skin smoothed and your muscles soothed as the experts work their magic.

Active types: The mountains that surround Turgutreis provide ample opportunities to raise the heart rate. Try quad biking or go on a 4x4 safari, discovering parts of Turkey that other tours just can't reach.
