Why go to Sidari

On the north coast of Corfu, with showstopper beaches and lively nightlife, Sidari offers memorable holidays in the sun for families, couples and friends. As well as bars and restaurants with music and food for all tastes, there’s watersports, boats trips and a unique romantic spot.

Sidari’s beaches keep holidaymakers coming back year after year. The resort’s main sandy stretch, Sidari Beach, has powdery golden sands, warm, shallow waters, water sports and all of the facilities you’ll need for a relaxing day by the sea. Around a 10-minute walk away you’ll find the small Canal D’Amour beach (Channel of Love) with rock formations and a swimming spot steeped in legend – one of the area’s most popular attractions.

When the sun goes down, there’s plenty to do in Sidari for all of the family. Friendly restaurants serve international food from pizza to steak and chips, but you’ll also be able to enjoy traditional Greek cuisine in local tavernas. Look out for one of the island’s most famous dishes, pastitsada (rich, slow-cooked meat in a spicy tomato sauce served with macaroni) on menus.

After dinner, wind down in a cocktail bar or enjoy a Greek dancing performance. For something more high energy, head to the one of the resort’s buzzing bars or clubs to sing karaoke classics at the top of your lungs and bop into the early hours.

If you’d like to see more of the island during your Sidari holiday, its elegant capital, Corfu Town, is only an hour away by car. You can also explore nearby islands on a boat trip, or, if you prefer to see the sights on foot, pick up part of the 220km Corfu Trail, a long-distance walking route that was established in 2001.

When to go to Sidari

For a toasty Greek holiday with plenty of sun and warm sea temperatures, visit Sidari between June and September. July is the hottest month in the resort when temperatures can reach the early 30s – but it’s also one of the busiest as the summer crowds arrive.

September is a pleasant month to visit as it’s quieter but temperatures can still reach 28C with sea temperatures around 23C. October temperatures are pleasant and ideal for walking and sightseeing – but some of the big attractions, such as Aqualand, will start to close down until spring.

Sidari is a great resort for savvy holidaymakers as there are cheap holiday deals available year-round. However, the most competitive prices for accommodation and flights are likely to be found in the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn.

What to do in Sidari

With glorious weather and gorgeous beaches, a holiday in Sidari could simply revolve around lazy days by the sea. But its twinkling waters are the perfect place to try water sports too. For family fun, there are water parks and boat trips to enjoy, while the island’s capital is within easy reach.

Canal D’Amour

Star of many of Sidari’s postcards, this natural beauty spot is made up of striking rock formations that have created narrow channels that you can swim through.

Legend has it that you will meet the partner of your dreams if you swim here or, alternatively, that couples who swim here together will stay together. Whether you’re looking for love or not, it’s an enchanting sight to visit – with clear azure waters especially stunning on sunny days, you’ll want to remember your camera.

Water sports

There’s plenty of fun to be had in the waters off Sidari’s main beach. For a holiday challenge, book yourself onto a water-ski or wakeboarding course to learn how to gracefully zip along the sea – courses are available for all levels.

Or, ride on inflatable donuts or the giggle-inducing “aqua rockets” (inflatable structures you can sit on together) with friends and family. Thrill-seekers can also take in the resort’s sights from above while paragliding.

Boat trips to the Diapontia Islands

Discover your own secret island paradise on a boat trip to the Diapontia Islands to the west of Sidari. In the summer months, there’s a regular ferry from Sidari to the islands or you can book an organised boat excursion. Take a picnic and enjoy the crowd-free peace on unspoilt white-sand beaches.

Othonoi is the largest island and is the westernmost point in Greece. You’ll arrive in the island’s port Ammos then can explore the ruins of Venetian castles.

Sidari Water Park and Aqualand

For fun-filled day out with the kids, head to one of Corfu’s waterparks. The small Sidari Water Park – complete with waterslides and a number of pools – is just a 10-minute walk from the main beach and is a good-value offering in the resort itself. Based in a hotel, you can pay for daily or summer access.

If you’re after a bigger attraction, Aqualand is around a 45-minute drive away and has an impressive 47 slides to keep your little ones entertained.

Corfu Town

The cobbled streets of Corfu Town, also known as Kerkyra, are just an hour’s drive away. Start by exploring its attractive old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dipping in and out of shops and museums. Then enjoy a drink in the colonnaded Liston Arcade while overlooking its cricket pitch.

For knockout views of the Old Town in one direction and sparkling sea in the other, climb up to the Old Fortress, Palaio Frourio, which was built in the 14th century.
