There are four five-star hotels – the Sani Beach Hotel, Sani Beach Club, Porto Sani Village and Sani Asterias Suites – arranged around a group of freshwater lagoons and set among pine forests and citrus groves. The hotels cater for all kinds of visitors, from honeymooners to families. They offer a dine-around programme so that guests may stay in one hotel and dine in any of the others.
Entertainment within the hotel complex includes the Garden Theatre, a spa and treatment centre, a marina and shops. The range of water sports on offer includes sailing and diving, together with biking and hiking. The resort is perfect for families, with organised sports such as football and tennis for all ages and children's clubs and crèches.
The wetland trail just outside the Sani Resort and the nearby Siviri village follows the clifftops and offers stunning views of the sea. The area is packed with wildlife, such as lizards, turtles and butterflies, and ancient ruins including a Roman villa and an early Christian temple.
Excursions from Sani Resort take visitors to Thessalonika's early-morning market for a tasting tour of local food specialities and a marketplace lunch. There’s also a guided tour of Thessalonika's beautiful Byzantine churches and the National Museum. A private cruise takes visitors to Mount Athos, Europe's only monastic republic.
Those happy with an early-morning start can visit Vergina, 50 miles south-west of Thessalonika and one of Greece's most important archaeological sites. The town was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia. The tomb of Philip of Macedon, the father of Alexander the Great, is preserved in a special museum.
