Why go?

Most people head for Italy’s famous coastlines and big cities. Take a step off the main tourist trail in Perugia...

Perugia is the capital city of Umbria, a region in the centre of Italy. It is a historic hill town with medieval streets and a history going back to the Etruscan Age. It hosts the Umbria Jazz Festival and is a well-known university town also famous for its chocolate Baci (kisses).

Perugia has an artistic background as well, with both Pietro Vannucci, who was known as Perugino and taught Raphael, and Pinturicchio coming from the area. Their paintings can be seen in the National Gallery of Umbria and the Sala del Cambio is decorated with Perugino's frescoes. There are many churches in the city, such as the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, and a number of interesting museums. Take a stroll around the city and visit the Fontana Maggiore, then enjoy the sunset from the Giardini Carducci.

Sant Egidio Airport (PEG) is the nearest to Perugia. It serves domestic flights and a few routes across Europe and there are also plenty of flights to nearby international airports. If you arrange car rental in Perugia, you can collect your pre-booked vehicle from Sant Egidio Airport or a convenient downtown location.
