With their winning combination of year-round warm weather, a short flight time from the UK and a varied choice of things to do, the Canary Islands are hard to beat as a winter sun destination. And one Canary Island is currently shining for value.
Looking for some good value winter sun? To help you to escape the UK’s drizzle for less, we’ve dug into our site data to reveal which of the big four Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura) is currently offering the most for your money. Our research has revealed that one island is a clear winner this winter when it comes to low prices, with an all-inclusive family week on its sunny shores costing less than staying on a bed and breakfast board on any of the other islands.
Whether you’re looking for a sunny self-catering escape to the Canaries or the ease of all-inclusive, here’s where your money will go the furthest this winter.
Our research revealed that the cheapest Canary Island for a winter sun holiday is currently Fuerteventura, where a week exploring its showstopping dunes, otherworldly volcanic landscape and pristine beaches costs just £676 per person on average based on a family of four travelling. That’s £268 – or 28% cheaper – than a week in Tenerife where the average price for a seven-night winter sun holiday is £945 per person.
Lanzarote is the second-cheapest island for a sunny week away with an average price of £797 per person, followed by Gran Canaria at £912 per person.

If you’re looking for a fantastic travel deal this winter, our data revealed that Fuerteventura comes out cheapest whatever board basis you book. It’s offering such value for money that an all-inclusive week on Fuerteventura costs less than staying on a bed and breakfast basis on any of the other three islands.
An all-inclusive week in Fuerteventura costs an average of £769 per person whereas the average bed and breakfast price is £889 per person in Lanzarote, £927 per person in Gran Canaria and £970 per person in Tenerife.
The difference in price is biggest between Fuerteventura and Tenerife, and the average price of a sunny all-inclusive week in Fuerteventura is £200 per person less than a week on a bed and breakfast basis in Tenerife (£769 for all-inclusive in Fuerteventura; £970 for B&B in Tenerife).
When comparing all-inclusive holidays on a like-for-like basis, Fuerteventura came in at a huge £288 per person cheaper than Tenerife's all-inclusive average of £1,058pp, a saving of 27% or £1,152 for a family of four.

The islands were much closer in price when it came to holidays on a self-catering basis. Fuerteventura is still the cheapest with an average price of £499 per person – £170 per person less than Gran Canaria at £669 per person, £98 per person less than Tenerife (£597 per person) and £71 less per person than Lanzarote (£570 per person).
But, while Tenerife has the highest average prices for both bed and breakfast and all-inclusive holidays, Gran Canaria came out as the most expensive for self-catering.

Fuerteventura stands out as the cheapest Canary Island overall and the cheapest for every board type. But, if you’re still debating which island to visit, it’s worth comparing how prices change by board basis on each island before booking. The cheapest option isn’t always what you expect.
As an example, in Fuerteventura, the difference between an average self-catering week and an average week on a bed and breakfast board is just £104 per person. In Tenerife, the difference is £373 per person – that’s a massive £53 a day for breakfast.
If your heart is set on a week in Lanzarote, average prices there for all-inclusive indulgence are just £61 per person more than opting for bed and breakfast (or less than £9 a day). And don’t discount Tenerife as too pricey if you love its buzzy bars and dramatic Teide National Park, as while it has the highest prices overall, it’s cheaper than Gran Canaria when you travel on a self-catering basis (£570 in Tenerife; £669 in Gran Canaria).
| Island | Overall average | Self-catering | B&B | All-inclusive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fuerteventura | £676 | £499 | £603 | £769 |
