The city of Brisbane sits along the river of the same name, just east of Moreton Bay, Queensland. Many people opt for car hire in Brisbane to view the best tourist attractions in the area in all their splendour.
Car rental in Brisbane allows for you to take in length and breadth of this great city, from the South bank parklands in which offers a vast array of shops, cafes, and a man-made beach and the famous Wheel of Brisbane.
South Bank is a great area for hanging out by day, with museums, galleries and plenty of cafes and bars. As the night draws in, many head to the West End or to Fortitude Valley, both very lively and with plenty of entertainment on offer. The CBD or Central Business District houses the Gallery of Modern Art, Town Hall and shopping.
The best time to visit Brisbane is during August and September when the Royal Queensland show and the Brisbane River Festival are held respectively. Ekka (formerly the Royal Queensland show) is a celebration marking the end of winter and is the last public holiday before Christmas.
There are also several major theme parks in the Brisbane area such as Wet'n' Wild, Sea World, Movie World and Dreamworld. You can also visit the Australia Zoo made famous by Steve Irwin and packed with Australian native animals such as crocodiles, kangaroos and koalas.
The best way to get around and avoid the inner city of Brisbane is to use the Gateway motorway, a toll road which links the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. If flying directly to Brisbane airport then it's best to pick up your car on arrival at the international airport (BNE), although there are also many locations to collect your rental car in the downtown area.
