Step off flights to Israel and step into one of the world’s most fascinating destinations. To some, Israel is the Holy Land: a sacred place where scripture and architecture come together and live long in the memory of the visitor. To others, Israel is hip, happening, pulsating – a café-to-club kind of place where anything can happen. Others still see Israel as a hot beach destination. With shorelines on the Dead Sea, Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, sun-seekers can take their pick of sandy hotspots.
Whatever you come for, stride off the plane knowing you paid a great price for Israel flights by booking via TravelSupermarket.
There is excellent availability of direct flights to Israel from London, while you can also fly direct and on connecting flights from other airports, including Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Birmingham, Belfast and Edinburgh. The average flight time of direct flights to Israel from UK airports is five hours.
All of the non-stop flights from the UK fly into party capital Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport...
Daily departures leave London’s Heathrow with British Airways and Israeli carrier El Al, which also flies to Tel Aviv (TLV) from London Luton. Low-cost airline easyJet also flies from Luton, as well as Manchester and London Gatwick, while Monarch flies from both Manchester and Gatwick. And Norwegian has services from Gatwick too.
If none of the above services work for you, take a connecting flight with Air France over Paris, KLM via Amsterdam, Lufthansa through Frankfurt, Austrian via Vienna or Swiss through Zurich. There are also frequent connections via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines.
The city of Eilat (ETH), often referred to as Ovda, can be reached direct on services with Monarch from London Luton. Connections with Arkia and Israir via Tel Aviv are an alternative option, or you can buy separate tickets with Ryanair via Budapest.
Know before you go and you’ll have no problem getting to and from the airport. That’s one way to Travel Super…
Israel’s busiest airport by far is Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV). Eilat Airport (ETH), which also goes by the name of J. Hozman Airport, is the second busiest and welcomes passengers to the Red Sea resorts of Israel’s south.
Trains depart every half hour from Ben Gurion Airport, arriving at Tel Aviv’s central Savidor station 18 minutes later. At 16 Israeli shekel per person (about £2.80), they are a fast, inexpensive way to reach the city. With extra charges for more than two passengers, luggage and an airport surcharge, taking a taxi to central Tel Aviv can be costly; expect to pay between 100 and 150 shekel (£17.50-£26, roughly).
Taxis and bus services are available at other airports in Israel. But why not hire a car? Israel is a relatively small country – you could drive, for example, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in less than two hours – making your own wheels a bonus. Pre-book car hire with TravelSupermarket and arrange to collect your vehicle at the airport or a convenient downtown location.

The Holy City of Jerusalem, Israel’s largest city, is a place of special significance for Christians, Muslims and Jews. The Wailing Wall, Mount Zion and Temple Mount are among the main attractions.
In Tel Aviv, or Tel Aviv-Yafo, visitors come for beachside fun and lively evenings (although there’s also a decent nightlife scene in Jerusalem).
Diving, swimming and sunbathing are the obvious draws to the Red-Sea city of Eilat, where you can also enjoy bird watching and tax-free shopping.
In the north, the city of Haifa is another popular spot. Climbing up the face of Mount Carmel, it’s a handsome destination with the added bonus of easy access to places such as Galilee. Don’t go anywhere, however, until you’ve seen Baha’i Gardens or the many splendid beaches.
