Don’t waste any time getting to the heart of Krakow. Avoid the hassle and book an airport transfer straight to your hotel.
A city of grand castles, underground jazz bars and fascinating museums, Krakow’s charms are varied and many. Outside its cobbled fairy-tale centre, intriguing day trips, such as the Wieliczka Salt Mine, add yet more reasons to visit Poland’s second city. And with so much to pack in, you really won’t want to hang around at the airport for a second longer than necessary.
Luckily, getting into the city centre is fairly straightforward. If you opt for the train, regular services run from Kraków John Paul II International Airport to Krakow Glowny central station, which is just north of the old town. With a journey of around 30 minutes, it’s a relatively short hop.
However, if you’re after sheer convenience, it’s hard to beat an airport transfer or shuttle bus. On average, transfers take around 30 minutes; the one clear advantage over the train is that this time includes being dropped off at your hotel. So, while taking the train may be cheaper, you’ll still need to find your own way once you get to the station.
If price is a stumbling block, you may want to consider a shared shuttle service. These services are less direct, but they offer a great compromise on cost and convenience – you’ll make more stops, but you’ll still be dropped off at your hotel’s door. That’s less time looking for your hotel, more time exploring one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.
Travelling as part of a group? Forgo the stress of getting everyone into taxis or on the same train and opt for a private minibus or bus. Plus, with a pre-agreed price already in place, you won’t have to worry about negotiating a fare.
