Great news for holidaymakers from London and the South East: easyJet has just announced an exciting expansion at London Southend Airport, with ten new routes set to take off for summer 2025.
Starting from March, the budget carrier will be flying to a mix of sunny beach destinations and cultural hotspots across Spain, Malta, the Canary Islands, Turkey, North Africa and Italy.
Both flight-only seats and easyJet holidays packages are now available to book for all these destinations. And with fares starting from as low as £21.99, you might find yourself tempted to book more than one trip. The new routes will operate multiple times a week, giving plenty of flexibility for travel plans.
For those who might raise an eyebrow at the "London" in London Southend Airport, it's worth noting that it's actually as close to Greater London as the well-established London Luton. And when it comes to transport links, the Essex hub is well connected. You can reach the airport in 53 minutes by train from London Liverpool Street, or 42 minutes from Stratford. That's often quicker than battling traffic to some of the capital's other airports.
The route expansion builds on easyJet's earlier announcement about a new Tenerife route from London Southend. Set to launch in May 2025 with daily flights, it turns out that initial plan was just the beginning. Now, with ten new destinations on the roster, easyJet is really putting London Southend on the map as a major departure point for travellers in London and the South East.
Here are the new destinations now in easy reach of London Southend.
easyJet is introducing two brand new routes to Spain. The first is to Reus (REU), the gateway to the stunning Costa Dorada and just a short hop from the vibrant city of Barcelona. The other is Almeria (LEI), where you’ll find beautiful beaches and the otherworldly Tabernas Desert.
Flights to Reus and Almeria will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
This Mediterranean island nation is a treasure trove of experiences. Valletta, the capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to its 16th-century architecture and grand palaces, and beach lovers adore the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Lagoon at Comino. And let's not forget the food – try traditional dishes like rabbit stew or pastizzi (savoury pastries) for a true taste of Malta.
Flights to Malta will operate four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Perennial fly-and-flop favourites Gran Canaria and Tenerife are also joining the lineup. Go to the former for its diverse landscapes, from the lush north to the arid south, and stunning dunes of Maspalomas and Roque Nublo, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Tenerife, dominated by Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak, has stargazing in Teide National Park, whale-watching off the coast and colonial architecture in La Laguna. Both islands have vibrant local cultures, unique Canarian cuisine and a calendar full of colourful fiestas.
Flights to Gran Canaria will operate three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, while Tenerife flights will run three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Flights to Dalaman and Antalya will open up the stunning Turkish Riviera. Dalaman is your gateway to the breathtaking Turquoise Coast, where you can explore the ghost town of Kayaköy, take a mud bath in Dalyan or paraglide over the famous Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz. Antalya, known as the 'Pearl of the Mediterranean', combines sun-soaked beaches with a fascinating history. Wander through the well-preserved old town of Kaleiçi, marvel at the ancient ruins of Aspendos or take a boat trip to the stunning Düden Waterfalls.
Dalaman flights will operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while Antalya flights will run twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Enfidha in Tunisia and Marrakech in Morocco bring a touch of exotic flair to the mix. Enfidha serves as a convenient entry point to Tunisia's coastal resorts like Hammamet and Sousse, where you can lounge on pristine beaches, explore ancient medinas or venture into the Sahara for a desert adventure. Marrakech, the 'Red City', is a sensory overload in the best possible way. Lose yourself in the labyrinthine souks, admire the intricate architecture of the Bahia Palace and end your day watching the sunset from a rooftop terrace overlooking the bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
Flights to Enfidha will operate three times a week on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, while Marrakech flights will run three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Last but not least, Pisa joins the roster. While the Leaning Tower is definitely its most famous landmark, holidays to Pisa are so much more. The city's location makes it an ideal base for exploring Tuscany, where you can sip world-class wines in the rolling hills of Chianti, marvel at Renaissance art in Florence or wander the medieval streets of Lucca and San Gimignano.
Flights to Pisa will operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.
