Flying into Tampa and renting a vehicle will have you on your way in no time at all and will get your holiday off to flying start...
Tampa, the largest city in Florida, is an excellent base from which to explore the nearby cities of St Petersburg and its popular tourist attraction the Pier, as well as Clearwater with its white sandy beaches, clear waters and sunshine. The world-famous white sandy beaches don't stop there though. Sarasota and Naples also offer the ultimate in sun, sea and sand, while a 100-mile drive from Tampa is the serene seclusion of Port Charlotte.
Tampa is also the home of the Busch Gardens amusement park with its thrilling rides and attractions and Lowry Park Zoo, as well as the Glazer Children's Museum.
Car hire in Tampa, which you can arrange at Tampa International Airport (TPA), is an essential way to get around the city and the many resorts and theme parks of west Florida that surround it.
With Tampa being a great base to explore Florida, it's worth using your rental car to visit some of the fantastic locations...
One of the most popular places in Florida, Naples is just a minute away from the incredibly beautiful Everglades and the Big Cypress National Preserve, the 729,000 acre area set aside for conservation and protection of the natural flora and fauna of the Florida Everglades. Just south of Naples is Marco Island, the northernmost point of the picturesque Ten Thousand Islands.
A two-hour drive from Tampa is Orlando, the destination of choice for fans of theme parks and shopping. You will also find some very laid-back coastal areas here. Near to Tampa is the historic Palm Harbour. Tampa is a fantastic base from which to explore but while in the city itself you can do some shopping in the International Plaza Mall or Westshore Plaza Mall before visiting the city's old historic quarter and its History Centre.
You could even head down to the Everglades or cross the state and visit Miami. Or you could head all the way down along the coast until you reach the Florida Keys for the drive to Key West and some amazing sunsets across the ocean.
