1. Marrakech

With year-round sunshine (and even hot in January, average maximum temperatures are around 18°C), energetic souks to shop in and a short flight time of around four hours from the UK, sun-filled Marrakech holidays are the perfect antidote to dreary drizzle in the UK.

And, trips to the most visited city in Morocco offer excellent all-inclusive value, with the average seven-night, three-star all-inclusive holiday working out at just £348 per person. Our data showed that it costs more, on average, to travel on a B&B basis to Marrakech with one-week holiday prices coming in at an average of £479 per person – that makes all-inclusive 27% cheaper.

2. Malta

Malta is a hugely popular holiday destination with TravelSupermarket customers at the moment, with searches for holidays to the archipelago up by 117% in August when compared to July. Why? Perhaps it’s because it’s currently the cheapest place for a beach holiday. Or maybe its rugged coastline, UNESCO-listed capital city Valletta and hiking trails appeal?

One winning reason is the value you’ll get by booking an all-inclusive holiday to Malta. According to our research, the average price of a one-week all-inclusive week in the sun in Malta is £518 per person, almost £47 per person less than booking on a B&B basis.

3. Egypt

With luxurious sprawling resorts, sandy beaches and a technicolour underwater world to admire while snorkelling or diving, Egypt is a go-to winter sun destination for many Brits. And, in September’s Holiday Hotlist, it nabbed the number ten spot thanks to searches for Egypt holidays being up 50% in August when compared to July, plus its resorts such as popular Sharm el Sheikh offering excellent all-inclusive value.

This value was shown in our research which found that the average cost of a week-long all-inclusive holiday to Egypt was £605 per person – £9 cheaper than booking to stay on a B&B basis.

Where does an all-inclusive upgrade cost less than £10pp a day more?

A tenner a day, or £70 per person a week, won’t get you far on holiday. A decent lunch or a couple of drinks at a beach bar, perhaps? And, in seven further holiday destinations, our research showed that it costs less than that to upgrade to having food, drink and more included in the price of your trip.

All-inclusive holidays to Thailand’s largest island Phuket cost just £15 more than B&B holidays, while in the glamorous Bodrum area of Turkey, all-inclusive is just £7 more per person. Over in the Indian Ocean, all-inclusive holidays to the island of Sri Lanka are just £51 per person more, while in the Antalya area, Turkey’s beach holiday favourite, it’s just less than £20 per person more.

Rounding off the list for all-inclusive value, we revealed earlier this year that Costa Almeria – an underrated area of Andalusia – was one of the most affordable coastlines on mainland Spain and all-inclusive holidays are a steal too, costing just £47 more than their B&B counterparts. Also in Spain, all-inclusive holidays to Balearic Island Menorca are just 8.2% more expensive – or £66 per person – than opting for breakfast only, while on Greece’s largest island, Crete, all-inclusive is just £56 per person more.

While some destinations are well set up for all-inclusive holidays, in others, upgrading could be a costly decision.

Our research found that the most significant price difference between the two board types in terms of percentage was on the Italian island of Sardinia, where opting to upgrade costs an average of a whopping £1,055 more per person – more than double the price of a B&B break.

It’s a similar story in the American Sunshine State of Florida where a week by its beaches and in its theme parks on a B&B basis costs an average of £1,104 per person compared to £2,404 all-inclusive.

The Caribbean island of Aruba is third in our expensive upgrades list where the difference between 'pay as you go' and all-inclusive costs £1,593 more per person for seven nights, an 80% increase, while Greece’s Athens area ranks fourth at £470 more, or a 77% difference. The capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, completes the five, where all-inclusive adds £818 per person for a week – 71% on top of the B&B price.
