Fancy scoring yourself a serious holiday saving this summer? Forget about August and look to late summer months (think September and October) instead. Not only is there still bucketloads of sunshine to enjoy in Europe and beyond, but travelling in September or October can be much cheaper than in the height of summer.

In fact, we've crunched the numbers and found that you could save up to 24% on a 7-night package holiday in late summer compared to August. That includes October too, ideal for savvy families who can travel in the half term.

From an extended summer in Hurghada to short-haul sun in Majorca, we reveal the spectacular savings you can make for some of our most popular summer holiday destinations by travelling later this year.

1. Hurghada, Egypt

Travel a little further afield to Hurghada for almost guaranteed late summer heat. With temperatures sizzling away in the low to mid 30s in both September and October, you can expect unlimited sun lounging, countless cocktails on the beach and plenty of watersports.

What’s the average price difference? Book your Hurghada holiday for September or October and you could save up to 23% compared to August (£939pp on average vs £1,234pp).

2. Crete, Greece

With huge sweeps of golden beaches and crystal clear waters, Crete is a slice of Greek island paradise. With an average of ten hours of brilliant sunshine a day all the way through to September and pleasantly warm sea temperatures still in the early 20s come October, Greece’s largest island is an easy-plaser for late summer beach breaks.

What’s the average price difference? You’re sure to love Crete even more when you see its late summer prices. For example, the average price in August, the pricier summer month, was £979pp compared to an average of £738pp in September/October – that’s 24% cheaper.

3. Florida, USA

Hop across the pond and you’ll find theme park thrills and glorious outdoor adventures in the USA’s Sunshine State. Late summer is a great time to visit, with summer’s intensely hot and humid temperatures starting to ease and relatively less crowds – ideal for relaxing on beaches and checking out the beautiful Everglades National Park.

What’s the average price difference? There’s plenty of fantastic Florida deals to snap up in September and October. When we looked, it cost £1,114pp on average in August compared to the late summer months, which came in around 19% cheaper – or £892pp.

4. Ibiza, Spain

There’s never a bad time to visit Ibiza, but plan a holiday for late summer and you’ll be treated to long balmy evenings, some cracking resort deals and quieter beaches than during the middle of August. And if you were hoping to dance the night away in the nightclub capital, the party season runs up until mid-October, so you can catch the epic closing parties.

What’s the average price difference? This fun-loving Balearic Island is around 22% cheaper to visit in September and October than it is in August. On average, a package holiday in August is £968pp compared to £751pp in late summer.

Majorca is a firm favourite for a summer holiday, drawing in the crowds with its stunning turquoise coves, lively resort towns and variety of all-inclusive hotels. Head there in late summer to benefit from the still-warm Mediterranean sunshine – think temperatures hovering in the low to mid-20s – and great shoulder season deals.

What’s the average price difference? We found it was 21% cheaper for a package holiday to Majorca in September and October compared to August (£626pp vs £802pp).

What’s the average price difference? It could be worth holding out for late summer prices for the Algarve. The average cost of a 7-night package holiday in September or October is £627pp – 20% cheaper than travelling in August (£793pp).

The second-largest Canary Island is an easy choice for late summer sunshine – you can expect average daily temperatures hitting the 25C mark and the sea still warm enough for swimming and watersports.

What’s the average price difference? According to our research, it could be up to 19% cheaper to visit Fuerteventura in September or October compared to peak summer – average prices in August came in at £850pp vs £687pp in late summer.

What’s the average price difference? Holiday here in late summer and you’ll be treated with some sweet savings. When we looked, it cost 19% less to travel in September or October than in August (£668pp on average compared to £825pp).

9. Antalya area, Turkey

Known as the gateway to the Turquoise Coast, Antalya’s postcard-perfect beaches and impossibly blue waters sure live up to the name. Late summer getaways here come complete with 11 hours of sunshine a day and temperatures still climbing towards 30C in October – one of the warmest short-haul spots for a half term break.

What’s the average price difference? Antalya is one of the best regions in Turkey to find a great package holiday deal and our research revealed that late summer was the season to find them. Holidays cost an average of £923pp in August compared to £766pp in September/October – a difference of 20%.

10. Bulgaria

From Sunny Beach's golden sands to the historic coastal city of Nessebar, there’s plenty to please on a holiday to Bulgaria. And the Black Sea gem is still warm in the later summer months, reaching a pleasant 24C in September – perfect for those seeking a sun-filled getaway without the summer crowds.

What’s the average price difference? It’s 21% cheaper to head to Bulgaria for a package holiday in September or October than in August. When we looked, the average price of a 7-night getaway was around £563pp in the late summer months, compared to £714pp in August.
