The summer months see temperatures pushing 30C on all four islands. Spring and autumn are cooler and also popular, while the mild winters see only city visitors to Majorca. Rain doesn't appear too often during summer.

Cheap holidays to Balearic Islands destinations are easier to find outside of the hot summer months of July and August. Late May to mid-June and mid-September to mid-October are still delightfully warm and sunny but holidays are much cheaper.

Angel Sunday; Majorca; May: Palma, the capital of the Balearic Islands and major city of Majorca, hosts the celebrations on the Sunday after Easter. Processions, feasts and kids' games swirl around the main event – and people dressed as giants (yes, really) walk from the town hall to Bellver Castle.

Nit de Foc (Night of Fire); Majorca; June: Be in Palma in Majorca to be a part of one of the most spectacular annual events in the Balearics. There are bonfires and displays of fireworks to enjoy. This event kicks off a summer-long schedule of fiestas.

Festes de Sant Joan (Feast of Saint John); Menorca; June: Ciutadella in Menorca is the venue for this traditional event where horse masters parade their beasts in the streets. Crowds gather to watch the showmanship.

Fiesta La Patrona; Majorca; August: Battles are staged in the streets of Pollensa in Majorca as the 1550 clash between locals and pirates is marked. This tiny town rose to meet the force of the invaders and saw them off – a just reason to celebrate and party.

New Year's Eve; Ibiza; December 31: Though the clubs of Ibiza shut over the winter months, a handful open to bring in the New Year in a way only Ibizan nightclubs could. Locals and holidaymakers, who don't mind the mild winter weather, enjoy a fantastic night of partying.
