If you think you know everything there is to know about the holiday islands of Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca, and Formentera, then think again. Because – between the sparkling beaches and the holiday clichés – these Spanish islands are full of beauty, intrigue and a little bit of the unexpected.
When it comes to the Balearic Islands, holidays hold constant and delightful surprises..
Book holidays in the Balearic Islands and prepare yourself for a surprise.
Tourist magnet Majorca has all the sun, sea and sand you'd expect, and you probably know that the island bustles with a cosmopolitan vibe, with an abundance of designer shops, swanky bars and harbours where mega yachts bob in the blue seas. But did you also know that you really can get away from it all here, with peaceful spots such as secret coves and sedate mountain villages such as Deia?
Lovers of a good party should head to Magaluf while Alcudia is a firm family favourite.
You might think of Ibiza and imagine a thumping summer club scene, where the locals lounge around at cool bars before popping to the hippy markets. While these things are rightly celebrated, Ibiza also offers family-friendly holidays in quiet resorts.
San Antonio town is famous for its clubbing scene but San Antonio Bay is quieter and perfect for family holidays. Another popular option for those after a family-friendly getaway is Santa Eulalia.
Menorca is well known as the meeker sister of Majorca, and the island's pace of life certainly is slower. Days revolve around the beaches in lovely Menorca, and evenings are spent in candle-lit restaurants as opposed to nightclubs. Menorca also throws up a few surprises in the form of its fascinating history, the legacy of which can be seen all around the island. From pirates to Romans, from Moors to Brits, discover plenty about the past from this Balearic Island that has been beautifully marked by history. Families should consider the resort of Cala'n Bosch.
Formentera is a surprise and a delight in itself. It can only be reached by ferries from Ibiza, so don't expect mass tourism here. White sands and turquoise seas dominate the unspoiled landscapes of this island.
This group of Mediterranean islands offer all that is great about Spanish holidays. The sun shines and tourists arrive in spring, summer and autumn, with only Majorca's large resorts and cities attracting crowds in the winter months.
Families, groups, singles and couples will find their place among the self-catering, villa and hotel accommodation on offer across the islands. Hotels range from basic and traditional to high-end luxury and there are plenty of all-inclusive options too. Pick your resort depending on whether you want a quiet break or a full-on party holiday.
Each island has a slightly different character and a charm of its own, and hiring a car is the best way to explore the best of what's on offer.
Whether you fancy a sun-baked holiday in Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza or Formentera, TravelSupermarket can find a bargain Balearic break. Search for your ideal holiday today.

The summer months see temperatures pushing 30C on all four islands. Spring and autumn are cooler and also popular, while the mild winters see only city visitors to Majorca. Rain doesn't appear too often during summer.
Cheap holidays to Balearic Islands destinations are easier to find outside of the hot summer months of July and August. Late May to mid-June and mid-September to mid-October are still delightfully warm and sunny but holidays are much cheaper.
Public holidays in Balearic Islands’ towns and cities are always a cause for celebration. Find out what’s on during your visit...
Angel Sunday; Majorca; May: Palma, the capital of the Balearic Islands and major city of Majorca, hosts the celebrations on the Sunday after Easter. Processions, feasts and kids' games swirl around the main event – and people dressed as giants (yes, really) walk from the town hall to Bellver Castle.
Nit de Foc (Night of Fire); Majorca; June: Be in Palma in Majorca to be a part of one of the most spectacular annual events in the Balearics. There are bonfires and displays of fireworks to enjoy. This event kicks off a summer-long schedule of fiestas.
Festes de Sant Joan (Feast of Saint John); Menorca; June: Ciutadella in Menorca is the venue for this traditional event where horse masters parade their beasts in the streets. Crowds gather to watch the showmanship.
Fiesta La Patrona; Majorca; August: Battles are staged in the streets of Pollensa in Majorca as the 1550 clash between locals and pirates is marked. This tiny town rose to meet the force of the invaders and saw them off – a just reason to celebrate and party.
New Year's Eve; Ibiza; December 31: Though the clubs of Ibiza shut over the winter months, a handful open to bring in the New Year in a way only Ibizan nightclubs could. Locals and holidaymakers, who don't mind the mild winter weather, enjoy a fantastic night of partying.
Whether you’re booking all inclusive holidays to Balearic Islands or a basic bargain break, there’s much to see and do...
Babies and toddlers: Children are beloved across all of Spain so you’ll have no trouble finding hotels, restaurants and attractions suitable for the littlest members of your travelling party. Look for a place to stay near one of the many shallow and safe beaches, such as Alcudia in Majorca.
Kids and teens: Majorca is a great destination for families. There are splash-filled water parks, marine wildlife parks, a zoo, mysterious caves and, of course, plenty of amazing beaches with oodles of space in which to kick a ball around and have a whale of a time.
Relaxing: Ibiza is not only the nightlife capital of the Balearics – it’s also got its fair share of away-from-it-all retreats where yoga, meditation and healthy eating are relished. Spa resorts are also popular – if you’re not sure you’re bendy enough for yoga.
Shopping: Palma in Majorca is a bustling city with many excellent shops and boutiques. If you’re in Ibiza, the main town is crammed with stylish outlets. The weekly hippy market at Es Cana is the place to channel your inner bohemian.
Nightlife: Without a doubt, the foundations of the super clubs in and between Ibiza Town and San Antonio rock seven nights a week to a variety of tunes. Some of the most famous clubs include Pacha, Eden, Amnesia, and DC10. This is the place to go for all out glamour and to dance until dawn.
