Why go to Ibiza Town

There are countless reasons to book holidays to Ibiza Town: stylish hotels, boutique shops, cool nightlife, hot summers, chic bars, sea views, nightclubs on the doorstep, incredible food... we really could go on and on.

Find Ibiza Town holidays with TravelSupermarket and add a few reasons of your own to this list of wonders...

Holidays in Ibiza are not typical of the islands and resorts that dot the edges of the wonderfully blue Mediterranean Sea. You can have two weeks of sun, sea and sand in one of the many gorgeous coastal resorts if that's what you're after, or take a retreat amid the undulating hills of the island, perhaps with a bit of yoga thrown in among the olive groves and modernised fincas. The island is, of course, known as a haven for night owls who flock here to dance the night away in one of the many super clubs that dot the landscape. Ibiza is also a cool, eclectic, super slick and ever-so-stylish destination and nowhere captures this spirit of chic quite like Ibiza Town.

Known simply as Ibiza, as well as by the Catalan name of Eivissa, or simply just Vila (the 'Town'), Ibiza Town is situated on the south coast of the Balearic Island of Ibiza, where the typical laidback charms and spicy aspects of Spanish culture flow freely.

From the medieval 'upper town' of Dalt Vila - a place where cobbled streets are eclipsed by age-old buildings - down to the uber-cool hotels and bars of Marina Botafoch, there's a place in Ibiza Town for every kind of traveller.

The UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site of Dalt Vila is the beating cultural heart of the town. Visitors love to stay here for a taste of an Ibiza of old. You don't need to stray far from Dalt Vila however to check in at hotels that offer more in the way of space, as well as facilities such as swimming pools and a range of restaurants. The marina is an excellent holiday option if elegant hotels and chilled-out poolside parties get you racing to put on your swankiest swimwear.

When to go to Ibiza Town

Holidays in Ibiza Town are popular year round thanks to the island's mild winters, though summer is when things really heat up...

From around May onwards the nightclubs open for the season and the island of Ibiza pulls on its finest holiday garb. This is when crowds begin to arrive, soaking up the glorious sunshine and average daytime temperatures that range from 22C in May to around 30C in August. In the sultry summer months, when evenings stay very warm, you will appreciate air conditioning in your hotel room. With daytime temperatures in the mid-teens during winter, some holidaymakers choose to see the historic and cultural treasures of Ibiza Town minus the intense heat and the throngs of people that are par for the course with summer.

What to do in Ibiza Town

As culture, religion and the arts of the island converge in lively Ibiza Town, this is the place to see a diverse range of annual events...

Easter (Semana Santa); March/April: Feted as one of the liveliest religious holidays in Spain, Easter time in Ibiza Town is spectacular. See parades and processions around Dalt Vila and join in one of the many parties that take place during the long weekend.

Eivissa Medieval Festival; May: This is one of Ibiza Town's most celebrated annual events. Explore the past during this three-day festival, which shows visitors how Ibiza Town would have once been. Taste, see, hear and be totally swept up by the jovial atmosphere.

Ibiza Rocks; throughout summer: There are plenty of cool clubs and bars in Ibiza Town itself, though one of the best weekly parties on the island takes place at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel every Wednesday from early June. It's only a 20-minute journey to the resort of San Antonio to get to the hotel and some of the biggest names in music take to the stage, so it's well worth the trip.

Ibiza Town is a great holiday destination and there's no shortage of things to see and do...

Romance: It might sound clichéd, but you really don't need much more than a sea view, a bite to eat, a glass of something chilled, and the glow of time spent in the sun to really ramp up the romance. All of these things come as standard in lovely Ibiza Town.

Relaxing: Though the island is increasingly well known for its rural retreats and countryside spas, there are some wonderful spa hotels in Ibiza Town - book a treatment and unwind in style.

Free and cheap: Every night during summer, the parades of dancers and club promoters begin their outlandish strut through Ibiza Town and on to the island's nightclubs, luring potential party people as they go. It costs nothing to take a seat and check out the amazing costumes as the evening takes on a new face.

Shopping: Ibiza Town is the shopping mecca for the island, so you are well placed to pick up some of Spain's most sizzling style statements.

Nightlife: The words “Ibiza” and “nightlife” are destined to appear in the same sentence. While Dalt Vila and the areas around it are about low-key evenings eating fresh seafood and enjoying chilled drinks, the marina and the nearby nightclubs are about all-out glamour and dancing until dawn. Some of Ibiza's most famous clubs are Pacha, Eden, DC10 and Amnesia. Pacha is the nearest so-called “super club” to Ibiza Town; it takes around 25 minutes to amble there from Dalt Vila.
