With a portfolio of hotels as impressive as its volcanic beaches, the hardest part of booking a holiday to Tenerife is choosing where to stay. Whether you’re looking for budget-friendly or all-out luxury, one of the island’s resorts is sure to have something up your street.

You’ll find some of the biggest brand names in Costa Adeje and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, complete with all the tourist trimmings and glowing reviews to boot – ideal for families looking for all-day entertainment and all-inclusive die-hards.

Widen your search and you’ll be rewarded with even more top-scoring options – think home-from-home hotels in Teide National Park and four-star boutiques in the historic seaside town of Garachico.

Not sure where to start? Our round up of the best hotels in Tenerife will help narrow it down.

1. Bahia del Duque

If you’re looking for a five-star paradise in Tenerife, Bahia del Duque is it. It was the first luxury hotel to be built in the south of the island in 1993, and it has set the standard ever since.

Surrounded by some 63,000 square metres of tropical gardens, it’s an icon of Costa Adeje’s coast, with traditional Canarian villas and suites making up the accommodation. In between? Every luxury bell and whistle you could think of, from private pools and a wellness spa to a Michelin star restaurant and star-gazing observatory (yes, you read that right).

Staying here comes with a price tag (rooms start from €279/£231 a night) but it’s worth every penny.

2. La Laguna Gran Hotel

For a city centre stay that's more boho bliss than boisterous, book yourself into La Laguna Gran Hotel. Located in the centre of San Cristóbal de La Laguna – Tenerife’s former capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – its old-school charm perfectly matches the city’s cobbled streets.

A romantic bolthole for couples, the hotel has a 22m-long rooftop pool and an extensive wine collection that’s best enjoyed as part of a cheese and wine tasting. Low €93 (£77) per night room prices should help with the budget.

It gets bonus points for convenience too, just 15 minutes from Tenerife’s North Airport and less than 30 minutes from Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

3. Iberostar Selection Anthelia

Tenerife and all-inclusive package holidays are a well-established duo – something Iberostar Selection Anthelia takes full advantage of. The five-star hotel reckons it’s one of the best all-inclusives in Spain, let alone the Canaries. With a list of excellent reviews as long as the buffet menu, we’re inclined to agree.

Multiple pools, eight restaurants and bars, and a beachfront position of Costa Adeje’s coast make it a top pick with families. There’s the Star Camp for kids, watersports for teens and a spa for parents seeking a moment of peace.

Rooms are on the simpler side, but the sea views make up for it. All-inclusive rooms start from around €345 (£287) a night.

4. Parador de las Cañadas del Teide

Parador de las Cañadas del Teide’s envious location at the foot of Mount Teide catapults it way beyond its humble three-star rating. It’s the only hotel in the Teide National Park, so the incredible views of the surrounding volcanoes are all yours to enjoy.

The lodge-style building has a homely atmosphere: rooms are modest but comfortable, the restaurant serves up moorish Canarian fare, and there’s a cosy lounge with an open fire as well as a small indoor pool. Don’t go expecting aqua aerobics at 11am though – this is one for peace seekers and nature lovers.

Rooms start from €122 (£101) a night.

5. Royal Hideaway Corales Beach

A stay at Royal Hideaway Corales Beach is exactly as its name suggests – a stunning retreat for adults with royal-treatment service.

Designed by local Canarian architect, Leonardo Omar, the ship-inspired theme of the hotel is carried through to the spacious suites, decorated in nautical blues and whites with sweeping ocean views. Starting from €321 (£267) a night, this is one to save for.

When you’re not soaking in your private hot tub or teeing off on a round of golf (the hotel has exclusive access to not one, but three local courses), the dining here deserves your full attention. Michelin star restaurants El Rincón de Juan Carlos and San Hô are a foodie's dream.

6. Barceló Tenerife

Packed full of sports activities but more peaceful than its larger neighbours, Golf del Sur is a great resort for any families looking for big-kid entertainment. Stay at Barceló Tenerife and you won’t even need to leave the hotel to find it.

The vast complex, scattered with terracotta-coloured buildings and swaying palms, deserves five stars for its facilities alone. Seven outdoor pools, a wellness centre, a beach volleyball court and a private lake are just a taste of what’s on offer here. If you do decide to venture out, the hotel’s location within the San Blas Environmental Reserve promises plenty of adventure.

Rooms range from doubles to family suites, starting from €141 (£117) a night with breakfast included. Go all-inclusive and you can get even more value for money.

7. Atlantic Mirage Suites & Spa

Adults-only Atlantic Mirage Suites & Spa really has thoughtfully created a true haven for couples. There’s a relaxed rooftop terrace with Bali beds and hot tubs, a stylish south-facing pool (heated in winter), a lounge bar with a tempting choice of cocktails, and a gourmet restaurant serving dinner with a sea view.

Rooms are sleek and welcoming with king size beds in all 178 suites. The spa’s Turkish bath and floatation pool provide extra pampering.

Sat on a clifftop in Puerto de la Cruz, you’re within walking distance of the charming old town and various shops and cafés. Rooms start from around €122 (£101) a night with breakfast included.

8. Boutique Hotel San Roque

Sometimes smaller is more impressive, as Boutique Hotel San Roque expertly proves. Tucked in the heart of historic Garachico on Tenerife’s north coast, the converted 18th-century manor house hosts just 20 boutique rooms, each with individual artistic flair and centred around a tranquil courtyard.

Its offerings belie its small size. There’s a rooftop solarium, swimming pool and restaurant serving up delicious Canarian staples.

This is another adults-only hotel, so bring your other half and a good book. Rooms start at €264 (£219) a night, or there are special getaway packages if you’re feeling indulgent.

9. Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife

Living up to its brand reputation, you can expect a stay at the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife to be loud and proud. Two giant towers have over 600 rooms, with pool parties and live music regularly on the agenda. With rooms starting around €186 (£154) a night, you’ll want to get in on the good vibes.

Beyond the pool, grown ups can treat themselves to a spa treatment, try out a Latin dance class or book onto a scuba diving lesson, while the Roxity Kids Club will keep little ones busy all day long. When you’re ready to refuel, the hotel’s six restaurants will take care of any cravings.

Find it in Playa Paraíso, 17 minutes from Costa Adeje by car.

10. Hotel Botánico & The Oriental Spa Garden

You’d struggle to find another hotel in Tenerife that instils a sense of peace quite like Hotel Botánico & The Oriental Spa Garden. Sub-tropical flora, pools with trickling water features and Japanese-style verandas make it feel like an extension of Puerto de la Cruz’s Botanical Gardens next door.

The hotel itself is a walking art gallery, while the rooms are classically styled in plush reds and dark wood tones. Rates start from €243 (£202) a night.

While the award-winning spa and sophisticated dining attracts couples, there are plenty of facilities for families too, including a mini club, children’s menus and an adventure programme that partners with local Loro Parque.
