Puerto de la Cruz Tenerife, winter sun and all-inclusive are a trio hard to beat.

October may have just begun, but the weather in the UK already feels like it’s on the downward slide to winter.

If you’re not quite ready to embrace the chill (we don’t blame you), luckily, you don’t have to. We’ve run the numbers at TravelSupermarket HQ to reveal the ten cheapest all-inclusive destinations for a sunshine hit this winter, and some are closer to home than you think.

From Mediterranean islands to North African shores, here’s where to snap up a cheap all-inclusive winter sun holiday.

1. Port El Kantaoui, Tunisia

Average high temperature: 18C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £333pp

Hammamet has become a regular in our cheapest all-inclusive summer destinations round up, but it’s Port El Kantaoui where you'll get the most for your money this winter.

Built in the 1970s, Port El Kantaoui was Tunisia’s first purpose-made tourist resort and has remained a magnet for holidaymakers seeking an upmarket destination ever since.

Its long, golden beach is a hub for watersports, its medina has boutiques galore, and the marina is a stylish spot for dining and yacht-watching. Four- and five-star all-inclusive hotels line the waterfront, many complete with private beaches and spas.

A peaceful spot, this is one for sunbathers and explorers rather than nightlife lovers.

2. Lara, Turkey

Average high temperature: 17C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £450pp

While 17C may not scream hot, a winter sun holiday in Lara is still warm enough for days on the sand and sightseeing in shorts.

With Blue Flag status and more than 8km (5 miles) of butter-coloured sand, Lara Beach is the resort’s trump card. The variety of watersports almost outnumbers the amount of sun-loungers and your hardest decision will be which beach club to spend happy hour in. If swimming becomes too chilly, the resort’s luxury all-inclusive hotels have pools and spas to while away your days.

If you’re looking for an activity, you can see giant sand sculptures at Sandland, go souvenir shopping in Antalya’s Old Town or take a day trip to the Duden Waterfalls.

3. Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife

Average high temperature: 22C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £463pp

It’s hard to think of winter sun and not picture the Canaries. With its subtropical climate, mild temperatures are a given.

For a cheap all-inclusive deal, Puerto de la Cruz on Tenerife is the place to be. While it’s one of the island’s smaller resorts, you won’t find a better spot for things to do. There’s the black sands of Playa del Castillo to laze on, salt water pools to swim in at Lago Martiánez, tropical flora to admire at the Playa Jardin botanical garden, and fascinating street art to discover on Calle Mequinez.

You’re also in hiking territory with multiple trails leading into the Orotava Valley – far more enjoyable now than in the heat of summer.

4. Marrakech, Morocco

Average high temperature: 21C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £479pp

Visiting Marrakech’s chaotic medina in scorching summer heat takes a brave soul. Go in winter and you’ll get bright, sunny days reaching 20C, half the crowds and, even better, cheaper prices on accommodation.

There are no beach resorts here, but when you see the city’s opulent all-inclusive hotels and riads, complete with mosaicked pools and courtyards, you won’t mind. Treat yourself to a hotel with a hammam and any stress over souvenir haggling will soon melt away.

Take the opportunity to get to know Marakech’s quieter side – one where you can sip fresh mint tea at hidden garden cafes and people watch from rooftop terraces. You’ve got a far better shot of seeing Koutoubia Mosque and Bahia Palace without the usual masses, too.

5. Side, Turkey

Average high temperature: 17C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £547pp

Side and all-inclusive hotels are as natural a pairing as cocktails and mini-umbrellas. Its gorgeous sweep of coastline is a hotbed for luxury resorts, many holding five stars and complete with spas. Luckily, choosing one for your winter sun escape won’t blow the bank.

Winter is a prime time to get your sightseeing on. The resort is a gold mine of ancient Greco-Roman ruins – the Temple of Apollo and amphitheatre are must-visits, as is the Side Museum, which is housed in old Roman baths. Shops and bistros fill the streets of the old town and the cocktail clubs bring the nightlife after dark.

Just 15 minutes out of town, Manavgat Waterfall is often in spectacular full flow during the winter months.

6. Benidorm, Spain

Average high temperature: 17C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £573pp

Visit Benners in winter and you might feel like you’ve ended up in the wrong city. A world away from its peak summer mania, the crowds have now dwindled, the beaches are more sand than sun-baked Brits, and the town has returned to a local beat. Of course, if you do want the full Benidorm package, the city’s main strip never sleeps.

Make the most of the pleasant temperatures and hire a bicycle to beach hop along the coast, from Playa de Poniente in the west to Cala Tio Ximo in the east. Or get back to nature by hitting the lush hiking trails of the Sierra Helada Natural Park.

End the day in true Spanish style with dinner at Tapas Alley – there’s no waiting for a table at this time of year.

7. Agadir, Morocco

Average high temperature: 22C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £594pp

You can get to Agadir’s shores in less than four hours from the UK. What you’ll find there is a laidback seaside resort lined with a giant curve of shimmering sand that remains idyllically warm well into winter.

Not only is it the season to find a great-value all-inclusive deal but surfing conditions are also at their best. Taghazout, half an hour north of Agadir, has some of the biggest swells.

The activities aren’t just limited to the beach, either. Sporty types can tee off with golf or hike the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, while shoppers have Morocco’s largest souk, Souk El Had, on their doorstep. Make sure to spend a day exploring the historic medina which was lovingly reconstructed following an earthquake in 1960.

8. Hurghada, Egypt

Average high temperature: 23C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £741pp

For reliable heat at a decent price, Hurghada is a hot pick for an all-inclusive winter holiday. The Red Sea resort town has miles of soft, sandy beaches lapped by impossibly blue water and the all-inclusive hotels are in a league of their own – picture immaculate suites and bali beds and you’re on the right track.

The marina is activity central with buzzing shops, restaurants and bars. Diving, snorkelling and boat trips to the Giftun Islands all depart from here, and the live-music clubs keep the buzz going into the evening.

For a more local flavour of Hurghada, shop for goods at the El Dahar bazaar or visit a traditional Bedouin village on a desert expedition.

9. Paphos, Cyprus

Average high temperature: 18C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £744pp

While winter is considered the off-season in most of Europe, it’s all go in Cyprus. Gone are the limiting high temps and crowds that come with summer, which instead make way for outdoor activities and sightseeing under blissful blue skies.

If it sounds like your bag, make a beeline for Paphos. Yes, the beaches shine like gold dust, but Paphos’s real treasure lies in its ancient ruins. The Tomb of the Kings is the most famous – a large necropolis of underground chambers, although the restored mosaics on show at Paphos Archaeological Park are equally as fascinating.

Those looking to take the adventure up a notch can hike the Aphrodite Trail, join a horse riding safari or go on a wine tasting tour.

10. Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote

Average high temperature: 22C

Average price for an all-inclusive holiday: £769pp

Just like the Canarian sunshine, holidays to Puerto del Carmen never stop. A year-round holiday hotspot, the resort’s best restaurants, shops, pubs and clubs are still at your disposal all throughout winter.

To wake up to the sound of gentle waves, pick an all-inclusive hotel close to the beachfront – Playa Blanca and Playa Grande combine to make a lovely long stretch of sand. The reliable sea breezes provide optimum hiking conditions, so lace up your boots and get scaling volcano craters in the Timanfaya National Park.

Visit in February and you can also be part of one of Lanzarote’s biggest and best Carnival celebrations, too.
