Craving sunshine and lazy beach days but don’t want to spend a fortune? October is a fantastic month to swoop in for last-minute holiday deals.
The long days of summer feel like they are well and truly over in the UK in October. But savvy travellers know that this shoulder-season month – after the peak summer prices and crowds, but before the chill sets in across Europe – is a fantastic time to escape for some good-value sunshine.
To help you unearth October holiday bargains, we’ve dug into our site data to reveal the destinations that are currently offering the cheapest last-minute prices. We analysed seven-night October holiday prices across the top 20 most searched-for destinations on TravelSupermarket as part of our monthly Holiday Hotlist and found prices for less than £500 per person.
For the cheapest prices and higher temperatures, early October before the schools break up for half term is usually your best bet. But there are deals to be had throughout the month.
Here are 10 beach break destinations offering last-minute value.

With its whitewashed villages, blue-domed churches, sensational sunsets and volcanic caldera, Santorini is perhaps one of the most photogenic Greek islands. And, while it’s gained a reputation for being pricey, Santorini is offering excellent value in October taking the top spot in our cheapest last-minute holiday destinations list.
Our research revealed that the average price for a seven-night holiday in October is just £465 per person and average holiday prices in the next six months are down by more than 35%. And October is a great time to visit as you can swerve the summer hordes, instead enjoying quieter beaches in pleasant temperatures in the 20°Cs plus more relaxed attractions, restaurants and sundowners.

Part of Turkey’s twinkling Turquoise Coast, the Dalaman area is home to the holiday favourites of Olu Deniz, Marmaris and Fethiye. It’s a place to lounge on sandy beaches backed by pine-clad hills, dip in turquoise waters that will still be 24°C in October (hotter than June), take relaxed boat trips to the nearby ‘12 Islands’ and shop in bazaars.
To make it even more appealing, it’s excellent value this October with average seven-night holiday prices coming in at just £488 per person. It also came in at number two in our list of the cheapest beach holidays at the moment. And, after sweltering July and August days with busy beaches and competition for the best restaurant tables, October is a more relaxed affair with blissful temperatures around 25°C.

Portugal’s southernmost region basks in more than 300 days of sun a year – which is great news if you’re visiting to spend time on its golden sands or to eat freshly-caught seafood al-fresco. There are maximum daytime temperatures of 22°C in the Algarve in October which is ideal for hiking on its coastal cliff paths, playing golf on some of the best courses in Europe and surfing in Sagres or the laid-back village of Alvor.
Taking our bronze medal spot for the cheapest last-minute prices in October, seven-night holidays to the Algarve come in at less than £500 per per person – at an average price of £495. And the sun-kissed stretch also offers excellent value for beach breaks over the next six months taking our number four slot for the cheapest beach breaks right now.

The Balearic island of Majorca has been luring Brits to its shores for decades and we can’t get enough of its rugged coastline, sandy beaches and the beauty of its Tramuntana Mountains. The island’s diversity means that you can choose between city breaks in the capital Palma, chilled coastal holidays in Alcudia, late night parties in Magaluf and more.
October is a fantastic month to visit for warm days with temperatures around 22°C and falling prices – October holidays are £161 cheaper per person on average compared to September. Securing our number four spot for last-minute value, the average price of a week-long holiday this month is £525 per person.

Combining wide sandy beaches lapped by the Mediterranean Sea, ancient ruins and a great range of places to stay from sprawling all-inclusive resorts to budget-friendly bases, the Antalya area on Turkey’s southwest coast is a crowd-pleaser. The city of Antalya itself is one of Turkey’s largest with a handsome Kaleici old quarter, Lara Beach has some of the area’s best beaches and luxury hotels, while Belek offers championship golf courses and swanky hotels.
And despite offering the highest maximum daytime temperatures in our top 10 in October – at 26°C – the Antalya area is currently offering excellent value with the average price of holidays in October coming in at £531 per person. The area is also a top pick for an all-inclusive holiday as our recent research revealed that the average cost of upgrading from a bed and breakfast board to all-inclusive is just £20 per person.

Rhodes is one of Greece’s most popular destinations thanks to its ancient sites such as the 4th-century BC acropolis Lindos, beaches that range from lounger-lined stretches of sand to remote coves, and Unesco-listed capital city Rhodes Town. It also claims to be Greece’s sunniest island with maximum daytime temperatures of 24°C in October and eight hours of daily sunshine.
It’s the second cheapest Greek island on our list for last-minute escapes with the average price for a week here coming in at £531 per person. And prices have fallen by 11.5% in the last month with the average holiday price in the next six months now £557 per person.

Hot on the heels in our last-minute value list with fellow Greek island, Rhodes (there was less than 20 pence between them), Kefalonia is a laid-back holiday destination with showstopping beaches, limestone cliffs, pretty mountaintop villages and the magical Melissani Cave.
A trump card for this picturesque island is the value for money it offers and it frequently features in our list of the cheapest beach destinations thanks to its budget-friendly hotels in resorts such as Skala and Lassi. It’s currently offering tempting prices for last-minute escapes too with average seven-night holiday prices coming in at £531 per person and temperatures in the early 20°Cs to lie back in.

Greece’s largest island, Crete, has world-famous attractions such as the Palace of Knossos and Spinalonga, picture-postcard beaches including the powdery pink sands of Elafonissi, and picturesque hikes in its Samaria Gorge.
October is the ideal time to visit these big hitters under blue skies without the crowds. Plus, it’s a great value time to visit with last-minute prices coming in at £546 per person. For the ultimate ease, we also discovered that it costs an average of just £56 per person to upgrade to all-inclusive in Crete when compared to bed and breakfast for a week’s escape – that’s £8 per day or a couple of rounds at the bar.

The fifth and final Greek island on our cheap last-minute holiday list, the Ionian island of Corfu has the knack to make you switch off as soon as your feet sink into its soft sands. As well as its bevvy of beautiful beaches, there’s a Unesco-listed Old Town to discover in its capital, hiking trails with endless sea views and story-book villages to wander around before a long, lazy lunch.

This Spanish swathe of coastline offers Blue Flag beaches, renowned nightlife and pretty hilltop villages in its popular resorts that include big-hitter Benidorm, lively Alicante, chilled Calpe and budget-friendly Torrevieja.
Costa Blanca always offers easy-on-the-wallet holidays, coming in at the fifth most affordable Spanish coastline in our research earlier this year, while last-minute October prices of £570 per person make an autumn blast of sunshine tempting now. And, with temperatures in the early 20°Cs and the sea around 22°C, beach days are still firmly on the agenda.
